I am offering to my patients the highest grade and regulated CBD ointments and oils.  Many of my patients have been using these ointments and oils for quite some time and they love it!  These products are not available anywhere except through a licensed professional; they are non psychogenic and effective for all levels of pain, anxiety and insomnia.  Derived from hemp (and NOT marijuana), these products are registered with the FDA and are made in an FDA-audited facility.  Because my clientele is highly educated, critical and health-minded, I will offer you the following information on the products I am carrying:

These products are CBD CLINIC formulations.  This hemp extract is from CW Hemp, the company behind Charlotte’s Web® – considered by most experts to be the purest and most effective CBD available worldwide.  Charlotte’s Web was featured in three CNN TV documentaries with Dr. Sanjay Gupta, demonstrating its effectiveness to provide medical benefits.  Charlottes Web CBD is a whole-plant extract from a patented strain of hemp that is nearly devoid of THC (below the legal threshold established by US federal law).  It is therefore not psychoactive and THC is NOT detectable in blood or urine tests.  Charlotte’s Web CBD is grown in Colorado under guidelines established by state and federal law, and with strict quality control measures to assure its purity and effectiveness.  A critical component of Charlotte’s Web’s quality control system is growing their hemp plants in clean soil, free of concentrated heavy metals which plague CBD sold in many other products.

PAIN RELIEF…CBD CLINIC ointments and creams are topically-applied to treat pain, versus oral medications that can have side effects.  Because CBD CLINIC products work topically via the peripheral nervous system, ingredients do not enter the bloodstream.

FDA OVERSIGHT…ALL CBD CLINIC products are registered with the FDA and are made in an FDA-audited facility.  This is important because it helps ensure the highest quality controls in raw ingredients, manufacturing and packaging.  This includes independent verification of the quantity of active ingredients in every batch made – so you can be assured of consistent product effectiveness.  CBD CLINIC is the first and only family of FDA-registered topical non-prescription medications formulated with cannabidiol (CBD). These ointments work wonders for joint and muscle pain, Morton’s Neuromas, plantar fasciitis and fibromyalgia.  Oils are administered as drops under the tongue and help with insomnia, anxiety and general stress.  For more information, please contact my office.

It’s that time of year again!  The Chinese Lunar New Year and it’s the Year of the Earth Dog.  Everyone who knows me knows how much I love dogs….but did you know that according to Chinese astrology, my Chinese zodiac sign (the Ox) just gets along ‘so-so’ with people whose Chinese zodiac sign is the dog??  Who knew….well, that’s humans for you, not REAL dogs!

You are a Dog if you were born in the following years:  1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018, and 2030.  The Dog is the 11th sign of 12, having been the 11th animal to cross a legendary river to greet the Buddha (he must have been eating a cookie and missed the announcement).  Interestingly enough, the Dog made it across the river before the Pig, which was the last and 12th animal to go say hello to the Buddha (the pig must have had all the leftovers).

If you’re a Dog, your lucky numbers are 3,4,9.  Your lucky colors are red, green and purple.  Your lucky flowers are roses and cymbidium orchids.   Your lucky directions are east, south and northeast – so don’t get lost.  Your lucky months are the 6th, 10th and 12th Chinese lunar months, so keep that one in mind when playing the megamillion lottery…..please don’t ask me how the Chinese came up with all this information…

The Earth Dog (this particular subcategory comes up every 5 years) was born in 1958 and 2018, so if this is YOU, this is YOUR particular year!  Two famous Earth dogs are Madonna and Michael Jackson.  Earth dogs are known to be communicative, serious and very hard workers.

Conversely, there are some UNLUCKY things for Dogs to look out for: blue, white, gold.  The numbers 1,6,7.  Don’t go anywhere pointed southeast and the months not to gamble are the 5th and 8th Chinese lunar months.

Just like REAL dogs, ‘human dogs’ are loyal, honest, friendly and kind.  They can be cautious but are sincere.  It’s difficult for some dogs to communicate (not everyone speaks ‘woof’), so they might come off as being stubborn.  Dogs love a good quiet life, family, home and above all – exercise.  Because the dogs are good workers, they tend to be talented police officers, counselors, professors, priests, nurses and judges.

Well, whether you’re a Dog or not, celebrate this weekend by giving your favorite four-legged furry friend a new toy or bone in honor of the Lunar New Year….bow wow wow!

This past Saturday,  the CBS Morning show did a feature story on the Black Rifle Coffee Co.   This is a grassroots coffee company owned and operated by veterans.  The Black Rifle Coffee Co. was founded by a  group of veterans who, while serving our country overseas, could not find a decent cup of coffee and began brewing their own at the battlefront.  When they came home, they spearheaded The Black Rifle Coffee Co.  Most of their employees are veterans and a  portion of their profits go towards assisting other veterans whose homecoming back to civilian life haven’t been as fortunate.  I was so impressed by this group of warriors, I decided to share their site with you today.  For all you coffee drinkers out there, check them out…try their brew…join their club.  If you like their mission statement (and the cup 0 joe), share with others.  This is a wonderful example of pooling talents, passions, and how missing that morning cup of coffee has led to an organization that hires several hundred of our veterans and still looks out for their own.  So, today….I give you all Black Rifle Coffee Co.  Drink up!

How many of you have already gone ‘off the wagon’ with your New Year’s Resolution?  I’ll bet at least 60% of you have either wandered from the gym – or not gone there yet (the “Manana Syndrome”), couldn’t say NO to those Dunkin’ Munchkins your colleague brought to the office, or purchased your 78th pair of Manolos just because they were 10% off (even though your credit card is about to blow up).

We all try hard to stay the course and we are all well-intentioned, but many stray from their resolutions within the first month of the year.  But, there are those individuals who always seem to do what they say they are committed to and stay in the game….coming out as winners.  How do they do it? What’s their secret?  I’ll tell you…. They STATE their intentions  publicly….yes, they tell everyone; they announce their intentions to the entire cyberworld via Facebook, at group meetings (Weight Watchers, Int’l for example), prior to the start of their favorite class at the gym (general announcement, folks!), or tell one more person each and every day what their goals are.  These Winners OWN THEIR WORDS and are ACCOUNTABLE for their actions.  People who are accountable own up to what’s coming out of their mouths and take responsibility for their commitments.  Of course, they have their bad days here and there, but because they ‘wear’ their accountability on their foreheads, they will tell the world as they know it how they’ve slipped and will ask for help to get back on course.  Their reward for accountability?  Their world responds with encouragement and support.  Pretty neat – isn’t it?  For instance….

I have a friend who was told by his MD that he needed to lose approximately 65 lbs.  His health was poor and for a man of his age, he was headed down a slippery slope.  What did he do?  He joined Soul Cycle and every single day for at least the past 6 months (snow, sleet, rain and heat), he posts on Facebook what his morning workout was, how many calories he burned, how much weight he was losing and takes a selfie.  Some might say this type of behavior could be labelled as narcissistic, but what this clever fellow is doing is being ACCCOUNTABLE for his resolution to lose weight, improve his health and live a healthier lifestyle.  So, what happened?  “Friends” and “Friends of Friends” have posted their support and cheer him on.  No matter what city he travels to or what holiday might come up, this guy finds a gym, takes a class and keeps ‘walking the walk’…he’s staying in the game.  Results?  Gradually, he’s lost over 45lbs last time I looked at his page.  He’s looking 10 years younger, gave his larger sized clothing to charity and feels just so much better.  Better still…his gusto for life is back and he is feeling fabulous and looking forward to attaining his goal of the 65lbs.  Quite frankly, I’m impressed.  Well done, my friend!

Folks…it doesn’t matter how large or small your resolution is this year….enroll a buddy to help you stay in the game.  Tell friends and colleagues what your goals are and don’t make it idle water cooler talk.  Stick to the plan, keep your support group up to date with your progress, and when someone brings the Dunkin’ Munchkins into the office, do what I do….tell them I’m back on Weight Watchers and I am not having any Munchkins today.  That’s the truth.  You see….even diehards like me need to be accountable for my own goals.  So, I just tell everyone I’m back on the Weight Watchers Wagon because I want to look even better come Springtime….accountability….try it on for 30 days and stick with it.  You’ll be surprised what happens.

If you have an issue with your resolutions and need help, contact my office.  I’ve helped a multitude of patients achieve their goals via my Wellness Program here at the clinic.  Wishing all the best this January and let’s all Stay In The Game!

This Thanksgiving, let us all be thankful for our men and women in the Armed Forces.

Ok, people…it’s that time of year.  The social season has kicked off with black tie galas, the cooler weather has abruptly shocked us into late fall here in the Northeast, and Thanksgiving has crept upon us!  The Great Turkey Day awaits!  Most of us are scrambling with last minute travel and cooking plans for the Great American Feed Fest.  Even most gyms have cancelled regularly scheduled classes and have modified hours of operation this coming weekend.

Listen up!  You’ve been working very hard to lower your blood pressure and cholesterol; keep those extra pounds off…how many hours at the gym and how many carrots have you eaten the past 6 months to look good in that very favorite pair of jeans or slinky dress?  Don’t mess up your good work!

Here are a few simple and healthy tips to get you through the BIG T DAY without compromising both your waist and your health:

  • Wherever you are going for your Thanksgiving dinner, don’t go hungry.  Have a salad, a healthy snack (yogurt with fruit, a boiled egg on a piece of toast or almond butter and honey on toast) prior to venturing out to the venue.  These snacks will keep you full and you won’t arrive to your destination famished – ready to devour everything in sight.
  • Choose your battles and win the war!  Instead of going straight for the cocktail, have a seltzer with lemon or lime to start the party.  Alcohol naturally increases the appetite…seltzer water with lemon or lime will taste refreshing and keep you in the ‘light’ mood longer.  You can have most appetizers any time of the year, so instead of the fatty cheese/saucisson platter, go for the fresh shrimp instead.  Most sides at Thanksgiving come once a year, so enjoy!  Select what is unusual.  Have a taste of everything if you desire, but keep the portions SMALL.  Most hosts/hostesses have plenty of leftovers; you don’t have to eat the equivalent of 6 dinners at one seating.  Ask politely and discreetly if you may have a plate to go for the next day.  Your host/hostess will be so flattered (and so happy not to have leftovers themselves), they will be more than delighted to fix you a plate for the next day.
  • Try to do a little exercise the morning of your Feed Fest.  Take a brisk walk, go to the gym, or just play with the kids or dog in the back yard. Any activity is good.
  • Oh, dessert…..choose your battles. Determine what is ‘really worth the calories’ and the hours it’s going to take to burn off those calories in the coming week.  Remember, ALL the holiday parties begin next week, so make a plan….and stick to it!

Most importantly – just have fun!  Don’t drink and drive!  At some point, share with your fellow guests  what it is you are grateful for this year.  Take a few moments to reflect on your blessings.

I’ll leave you with my thoughts on Thanksgiving:  I’m very grateful I’m allergic to turkey and have no palate for most of the dishes served at Thanksgiving.  It makes the day much easier to manage.  I’m grateful for the family members who love me, for the friends I cherish and for all of you; because without you, I wouldn’t be who I am.

God’s peace and have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Acupuncture is a safe, effective, and economical modality to treat many medical conditions. In 2003, The World Health Organization (WHO) determined the efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine and advocated its practice worldwide https://www.evidencebasedacupuncture.org/who-official-position/ . Fourteen years later (2017), the government of The United States of America (USA) has declared the country is in the midst of an Opiate War; a result of the over-prescribed opiates (painkillers) and the addictions and subsequent deaths related to opiate abuse in this country.

It is time that the allopathic medical establishment and members of the AMA here in the USA become more informed and familiar with Traditional Chinese Medicine so they understand how patients can be relieved of painful conditions without the use of prescription drugs. NOW is the time for all of us in the medical industry to integrate our talents, knowledge and specialties for the benefit of our patients’ welfare and optimal health. I engage every day with my colleagues who are surgeons, general practitioners, internists, migraine specialists, ob/gyns, – these medical professionals refer their patients to my practice for pain management. Together, we determine the best course of treatment for our patients. No medical professional desires to have a patient suffer from pain, nor become dependent upon opiates – and that’s where acupuncture shines! It is drug free, dependent free, and highly effective for the treatment of pain.

If you, a family member, a friend or colleague is taking prescription drugs for pain, please do reach out to my office for treatment. Let me help you get off the painkillers and live life fully without pain and without the use of daily drugs. Cold laser (which is for those who do not like needles) is also utilized at my clinic.

In addition, pain is not all that Traditional Chinese Medicine can treat. The following is a list of the various medical conditions that can be treated with acupuncture, determined by the WHO in 2003. Take 5 minutes and read the list; I am certain you will be surprised when you realize I can help you with these conditions:

A strong immune system is key to good health in general and staving off infections.  A sensible diet, moderate exercise, quality sleep and limited stress all contribute to boosting your immune system.  “Run down” typically leads to catching a cold or worse.  My patients who come in for regular ‘immune boosting’ treatments are all happy, healthy and disease/sickness-free; living life to the fullest.  Acupuncture has been used for over 2,000 years to enhance health and longevity.  A recent publication on the National Institute of Health’s (NIH) site was posted and I will give you the direct quote below.  Basically, what it states in simple language is that the application of acupuncture on certain points with mild electro-stimulation, can enhance B cells and T cells in the body (immune boosting and germ fighting cells).  A proven study that the NIH has published.  So, if it’s good for them, you KNOW it’s good for you!  Call or email the office today and set up an appointment for treatment.  Better to boost your immune system than be too sick to attend all the holiday festivities coming our way!

Enhancement of immune cytokines and splenic CD4+ T cells by electroacupuncture at ST36 acupoint of SD rats.

Electroacupuncture at the ST36 acupoint can enhance the body’s immune function. However, the mechanism for this enhancement has not been fully described. Our study was designed to investigate the effect of electroacupuncture on the immune function of Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. The rats were randomly divided into three groups: a control group, a non-acupoint group (abdominal muscle acupuntured) and a ST36 acupoint group. Our results showed that successive electroacupuncture at the ST36 acupoint for 3 d significantly enhanced the interferon-γ (IFN-γ) level in the serum of SD rats. The results also showed that the serum and extracts from spleen cells of the ST36 acupoint group contained higher levels of interleukin (IL)-2 and IL-17 compared to those of the other two groups. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that electroacupuncture applied to the ST36 acupoint enhanced the expression level of CD4 in spleen cells. Furthermore, it was observed that CD4 co-localized with transient receptor potential vanilloid (TRPV) channels at the membrane of splenic CD4+ T cells and the expression level of CD4 was related to TRPV channels in the electroacupuncture treatment. These observations indicated that electroacupuncture stimulation at the ST36 acupoint enhanced the level of immune cytokines and splenic CD4+ T cells through TRPV channels in this system.
